Si cu ocazia asta va recomand si un film vazut in cadrul Festivalului de film european, despre care nu pot spune decat: must see, cautati-l!

José and Pilar

“José and Pilar,” a documentary by Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, is a deeply moving story about love, loss and literature. It follows the days of José Saramago, the Nobel-laureate Portuguese novelist, and his wife, Pilar del Rio. The film shows their whirlwind life of international travel, his passion for completing his masterpiece, “The Elephant’s Journey” and how their love quietly sustains them throughout. “Jose and Pilar” reveals the hidden Saramago, unravels any preconceived notions about him, and proves that genius and simplicity are indeed compatible. It is a funny and touching portrait on the endurance of the artistic spirit. A glimpse into the life of one of the greatest creators of the 20th century, it shows us that, as Saramago says, “There is always another way to say everything.”

Bune zic eu 🙂

I Saw the Devil.jpg  Dupa atatea “dulcegarii” am zis hai sa vad si ceva mai violent :)) Am ales I saw the devil in regia cunoscutului regizor corean Jee-woon Kim.

Lucky Number Slevin.jpg  Si inca unul…super bun. Asta in cazul in care nu l-ati vazut deja, e din 2006: Lucky Number Slevin. Cine joaca in el? Numa’ unu si unu 🙂 Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Stanlley Tucci, Ben Kingsley, Lucy Liu.

Nordwand (North Face)

nordwand.jpg

As you watch Philipp Stölzl’s gripping survival drama, “North Face,” it is impossible not to put yourself in the boots of the mountaineers clinging to a sheer,  icy rock face during a blizzard that threatens to send them into oblivion. The sight of the exhausted climbers fighting to stay alive after failing to reach the summit of the Eiger, a 13,000-foot peak in the Swiss Alps, is transfixing in the way that well-told life-and-death adventure tales inevitably are. It is the film’s more mundane elements — an awkward, under-nourished love story and half-baked politics — that are problematic.

The film, based on a true story, recalls the attempt of two German climbers, Toni Kurz (Benno Fürmann) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Florian Lukas), to scale the Eiger’s 5,900-foot near-vertical north wall, then unconquered, in mid-July 1936.

At that time, climbing the north wall, called “the last problem of the Western Alps” by Alpinists, was something of an obsession for the Nazis in the weeks leading up to the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. (The Eiger’s summit had been reached by other routes as early as 1858.) Scaling the “death wall,” as it was nicknamed, would be a perfectly timed propaganda coup.

Persepolis

In 1970s Iran, Marjane ‘Marji’ Statrapi watches events through her young eyes and her idealistic family of a long dream being fulfilled of the hated Shah’s defeat in the Iranian Revolution of 1979. However as Marji grows up, she witnesses first hand how the new Iran, now ruled by Islamic fundamentalists, has become a repressive tyranny on its own. With Marji dangerously refusing to remain silent at this injustice, her parents send her abroad to Vienna to study for a better life. However, this change proves an equally difficult trial with the young woman finding herself in a different culture loaded with abrasive characters and profound disappointments that deeply trouble her. Even when she returns home, Marji finds that both she and homeland have changed too much and the young woman and her loving family must decide where she truly belongs.
